Every business needs to do politics.
To do politics, you need a plan. Specifically, a campaign plan.
Not for the output, for the input.
Because, let’s be honest: most plans are useless:
They are out-of-date by the time the ink dries
They can’t predict crises and issues management realities
They are based on assumptions that prove incorrect when market-tested
As useless as a plan is, planning is valuable because it:
Gets you thinking long-term, moving past daily distractions
Forces you to assess policy solutions and how you’ll realize them
Aligns stakeholders to a common goal
Points the ship in the right direction
Helps you prioritize and allocate resources effectively
Forces you to think about potential roadblocks and what it will take to overcome them
Provides a framework for measuring success and adjusting course as necessary
A plan is useless. Planning is valuable. Always be planning.
Always be planning
